
Jura is one of the four departments of the Franche Comté region.
Champagnole
The river Ain is the origin of Champagnole's industries : sawmills, mills, steel works.
The Forges of Champagnole were founded in 1788 by the Muller family. In 1845; these factories united to become Foundries and Forges of Franche Comté. At the present time only the Forges de Syam still exist, founded in 1813 by the Jobez family, by virtue of an imperial decree; this concern is classed as an historical monument.
A picturesque and attractive region of Jura dotted with lakes, viewpoints and remarkable sites, such as the Herisson waterfalls.
The Lakes region offers a multitude of activities; trails throughout the area are ideal for hikers, horse riders and mountain bikers.
The Lakes Road (Route des Lacs) is 150 km long and connects the main places of interest in the area as well as the different lakes.
The Haut-Jura is as endearing as its accent and as well preserved as its regional natural park.
At Les Rousses, the 4-village resort, you can ski down-hill or cross-country a cheerful atmosphere.
In and around Bellefontaine, Morbier and Longchaumois, habits are traditional and untrammelled.
