Saint-Paul de Vence has always been a haven of the famous. During the 1960s it was the playground of french actors Yves Montand, Simone Signoret, Lino Ventura and of poet Jacques Prevert.
Saint-Paul is also well known for the artists that have lived there such as Marc Chagall, and more recently Théodore Tobiasse and Giuliano Mancini.
American writer James Baldwin died in Saint-Paul de Vence in 1987
